Popular Bangor restaurant goes on the block

The owner of the 41-year-old Judy’s Restaurant, in Bangor, is putting the business and its building up for sale.

“I guess there’s a time to hold ‘em, and a time to fold ‘em, and this is the time to fold ‘em,” owner Del Merritt, who listed the State Street property on Monday, told the Bangor Daily News

Merritt cited workforce challenges and increasing costs. Merritt also owns Speedway 95 in Hermon and Cap’s Tavern in Brewer.

According to the listing, the building was built in 1900 and is located in the Bangor business district. The asking price is $525,000.

Cap’s Tavern was gutted by arson in 2017 but was rebuilt and reopened in 2018.

Merritt started out as an assistant flagman at the Speedway 95 stock car track in 1968, then bought the track in 1977 with Red and Alice Baker, John Michaels and some minor investors. Merritt became sole owner in 2011, the Bangor Daily News reported in 2014.
