A series of track improvement projects between Brunswick and Dover, N.H., will disrupt Amtrak Downeaster passenger rail service for the next month.

Work began on Saturday and will continue into mid-October.

As a result of these projects, which include the rehabilitation of several grade crossings and the replacement of 15,000 ties, the number of Amtrak Downeaster trains operating on weekdays will be limited. Downeaster passengers traveling to or from stations between Brunswick and Dover, N.H. on can expect a portion of their journey to be operated by bus.

All trains are expected to operate on weekends, however passengers should anticipate construction-related delays. Most Downeaster fares have been reduced for impacted passengers during the construction period.

Because numerous projects will be conducted at various locations along the corridor, operating scenarios will vary throughout the construction period, Downeaster stated in a news release.

Specific information related to planned service interruptions has been programmed into the Amtrak reservation system. Downeaster passengers traveling during the construction period should make reservations in advance of their travel date and pay close attention to travel alerts and information provided regarding their travel plans. Detailed station-specific information regarding Downeaster service interruptions can be found online here
