Study abroad group in Portland launches entrepreneurship program in Europe

The Council on International Educational Exchange, headquartered in Portland, will launch two postgraduate education programs in Europe to teach entrepreneurs the skills for developing and operating a new business.

The eLab — short for Entrepreneur Lab — courses will start in January at CIEE’s schools in London and Berlin, according to a news release. Each curriculum is six weeks long, and leads to a completion certificate.

The “Emerging eLab” program is designed for students who want to prepare a business concept for investors or ready a start-up business for launch. The “Advanced eLab” coursework is intended for students who are growing a previously launched business.

Both programs will provide a mix of guest lectures and discussion, workshops, group exercises and visits to local businesses. The programs will conclude with sessions in which students pitch a business plan to consultants from companies such as Google for Entrepreneurs and Ernst & Young, the news release said.

The Emerging eLab program tuition is $6,500; the fee for the advanced course is $4,500.

Participants can also enroll in both programs for a combined fee of $9,000, and can take the courses in either city. Scholarships are available, but housing is not provided.

Application deadlines for both programs, which kick off on Jan. 7, are Nov. 1.

CIEE, founded in 1947, is the country's oldest and largest nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization. It operates over 175 programs in over 40 countries.
