CES acquires Florida engineering firm

CES Inc. President and CEO Denis St. Peter. CES announced plans to acquire a Fort Myers, Fla., civil engineering firm, Bean, Whitaker, Lutz, and Kareh Inc.
Environmental engineering firm CES Inc., which is based in Brewer and operates six other Maine offices, has acquired a Florida civil engineering firm.
The deal is for Bean, Whitaker, Lutz, and Kareh Inc., a 23-person civil engineering and surveying firm in Fort Myers, Fla.
Terms were not disclosed.
CES has offices in Brewer, Saco, Bar Harbor, Lewiston, Machias, Presque Isle and Waterville. With the addition of BWLK, the firm employs about 100 professionals.
One of the Florida firm’s owners, Ahmad Kareh, will join CES as a shareholder, vice president and regional manager. Scott Whitaker, president of BWLK, will serve as a CES senior project manager.
To “maintain a sense of familiarity,” BWLK will be identified by its initials and be known as a division of CES, the release said.
Founded in 1987, BWLK maintains one of the largest private sources of property information in southwest Florida, according to the release, and has extensive experience with coastal permitting for the residential market.
“Well-known for its professional capabilities on land use and development projects in southwest Florida, BWLK maintains a high level of customer service that built solid long-lasting client relationships that will continue under CES,” said CES President and CEO Denis St. Peter in the release.
The acquisition is the first outside of Maine for CES. Two years ago, it purchased Saco-based engineering firm Mohlin & Co.
St. Peter said, “CES is already engaged with multiple clients on a national level and a successful business model for us includes expanding our brick-and-mortar presence beyond the state’s borders.”
