New England Cannabis Network is returning to Portland to host the Fourth Annual Maine Cannabis Convention this weekend, which will feature over 175 industry exhibitors and 50-plus local and national presenters to speak on all facets of the industry.

The two-day event will include two educational program tracks involving topics on cannabis business, careers and medicine, as well as do-it-yourself extraction, and cooking demonstrations. More than 4,000 people are expected to attend the event held at the Portland Sports Complex, 512 Warren Ave in Portland.

Marc Shepard, NECANN’s co-founder, said the convention’s lineup of exhibitors and speakers reflects the rapid growth of Maine’s cannabis industry.

“Looking back to our first event here back in 2015, [when] 60 small exhibitors crammed into the USM gymnasium, it’s amazing to see how quickly the local industry has grown in just three years,” he said. “ With recreational sales still not even started yet, this is just the tip of the iceberg for new businesses, job opportunities and tax revenue for Maine in the years to come.”

What’s lined up

Convention highlights include:

  • High Times’s senior cultivation editor Danny Danko making his first Maine appearance, speaking about the differences between soil and hydro home-growing.
  • Cannabis Queens: A panel of leading female entrepreneurs who will discuss opportunities in plant touching and ancillary businesses and how they’ve applied various skills, strategies and best practices to become successful business leaders.
  • Demos: Demos will be running both days that will use live cannabis plants, including how to process THC, make different kinds of edibles and infused drinks.
  • Local innovators: The exhibitors include over 100 Mainer-owned businesses including Portland’s Higher Grounds Coffee, which will be showcasing their CBD infused coffee, and Arch Solar, a Portland-based that’s become nationally known for its custom-designed, low-cost, high-performing integrated solar greenhouses.
