The other finalists were Adam Burk/ The Treehouse Initiative, Creative Portland, Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center and Think Tank.

The Portland Public Library was named Portland Ambassador in the 11th annual Indie Biz Awards last week, beating out fellow finalists Adam Burk/The Treehouse Institute, Creative Portland, the Greater Portland Immigrant Welcome Center and Think Tank coworking space.

Winners were announced, and honored, at an event last week at the Portland House of Music & Events. Out of hundreds of nominations submitted, a committee selected finalists for each category. That was followed by a popular vote held in late August and early September.

The annual awards are organized by Portland Buy Local, a campaign of the Portland Independent Business and Community Alliance. Both the campaign and the Alliance originated in 2006.

The Alliance’s mission is to support locally owned, independent businesses in Portland, to maintain Portland’s unique community character, provide continuing support for entrepreneurs, build community economic strength and prevent the displacement of community-based businesses by national and global chains.

Indie Biz Awards are given in several categories, from “Flavor of Portland” to “Local Love.”
