The owners of Wild Burritos restaurant in Portland have begun restoration of an 1852 home in Wiscasset that was a former museum called the Musical Wonder House.
The Lincoln County News reported that Michael Collins, Dana Long and Dan Dyer bought the property in January and began renovations soon after to make it a home for themselves. Originally built as a home in 1852, it was purchased in 1962 by Danilo Konvalinka, who turned it into a museum and repair shop for antique music boxes and player pianos. It operated through 2014, when its collection was liquidated and the house went into foreclosure.
According to a 2014 Lincoln County News article, the business achieved international acclaim for its collection, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
The property was listed in Atlas Obscura, which cited rooms and hallways filled with clockwork birds, player pianos, musical Swiss stereopticons and coin-operated orchestral music machines with spinning ballerinas.
