Prompto Oil founder ‘Charlie’ Kapothanasis dies

The founder of Prompto Oil, the ubiquitous 10-minute oil change shops in Maine and New Hampshire, has died.
According to his obituary, Constantine (Charlie) Kapothanasis, of Westbrook, died Dec. 31 after a brief illness.
Born on June 28, 1929, he left his hometown of Kalamata, Greece, in 1957 on a boat that brought him to Portland. He eventually opened K Brother Repairs in Portland and turned it into a thriving business. In 1984, he opened his first Prompto shop in Portland. Today, there are 24 Prompto shops across Maine and New Hampshire, and another is scheduled to open soon in Scarborough. The business is now managed by his sons. According to the obituary, the sons said it will be run the way their father would want it to be run, like a family, and they are now offering health care benefits to all employees.
He once said his net worth was $3 million because each of his boys was worth a million dollars to him.
Of his many hobbies, he had a particular passion for horses, training and owning some of the finest thoroughbreds in New England.
He is survived by his wife Effie; their sons Christo and his wife Kim, Paul and his wife Irene and Tasso and his wife Valentina; their grandchildren Christie, Costas, James, Gregory, Alexander, Nicolette, Anastasia and Evangelo and their great-grandchildren Ellie and Christo.
His funeral will be Saturday at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland. Donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in his memory.
