Freedom Boat Club of Maine readies for spring expansion to Portland

Yarmouth Boat Yard and Moose Landing Marina have combined annual revenue of $21 million. Arnold's franchise plans to open its third location this spring at the new Fore Points Marina on Portland's eastern waterfront.

Although the spring boating season is still a few months off, Freedom Boat Club of Maine announced it will add a location in Portland as flagged by owner Steve Arnold in an interview with Mainebiz last summer.

Arnold owns Yarmouth Boat Yard, Moose Landing Marina and the Freedom Boat Club of Maine Franchise, which he’s operated for about a year out of Yarmouth and Naples.

The franchise will open its third location at the new Fore Points Marina, set to open in May at 58 Fore St. on the city’s eastern waterfront.

“We’ve had an amazing first year,” Arnold send in a press release emailed to Mainebiz. “Demand for a maintenance-free boating option here in Maine has been very strong. Our members love cruising in the Portland area so when we heard about the new 150-slip Fore Points Marina project in downtown Portland, we knew it would be a perfect location to open our new club.”

Casey Prentice, managing partner of Portland Foreside Development Co., which owns the Fore Points Marina, added: “We are excited to partner with Freedom Boat Club of Maine and their teams as we jointly work to create opportunities for the Portland waterfront community to celebrate and thrive.”

The deep-water Fore Points Marina, which is taking reservations via a website, will offer 150 slips with berthing options for vessels of any size.

Arnold, a Florida native, moved to Maine in 2003 after a career in finance that took him to San Francisco, New York and London.

The Freedom Boat Club of Maine was recently named “Rookie of the Year’ at the Freedom Boat Club national conference in Florida, which is given to the most promising new franchise.

The firm said it will host a fleet of new model year boats at the Fore Points Marina, which is promising a host of amenities to seasonal boaters from free wifi to showers and a picnic area.
