Portland is nation's 25th healthiest city in WalletHub ranking

Portland was listed as the nation’s 25th healthiest city out of 174 ranked by the personal finance website WalletHub.

The report on America’s healthiest and unhealthiest cities compared cities across 42 indicators of good health, from the cost of medical visits to fruit and vegetable consumption and fitness clubs per capita.

San Francisco topped the list at No. 1, followed by Seattle, San Diego, and Portland, Ore., at 2, 3 and 4 respectively.

Maine’s biggest city fared better in health care and food than in green space and fitness, which is based on factors that include the proportion of adults who engage in any physical activity, and number of fitness and instruction centers per capita.

Several southern cities were at the bottom overall, with Brownsville, Texas, coming in dead last at 174.

Portland was ninth on Topretirement’s recently released 2019 list of the best places to retire, winning praise for its vital downtown and friendly, small town feel.
