Organizers of Startup Maine have released some details of this year’s conference, which will be held June 19 to 21 at Maine College of Art in downtown Portland.

This year’s theme, “Startups, Innovators and Policy Makers,” will seek to challenge attendees to identify how entrepreneurs can address local, national and global challenges. It will mark the sixth edition of the annual gathering.

“This year’s conference will be our most ambitious yet,” said Katie Shorey, president and chair of the nonprofit organization she helped form.

“There is so much good news and many bright spots in our state related to the startup economy and, through the conference, we aim to accelerate the creation and nurturing of startups," Shorey said in a news release.

The conference will host more than 24 workshops, and anyone interested in giving one has until March 1 to submit an application via the event website’s “Get Involved” section.

Shorey told Mainebiz that workshops are focused instructional sessions that offer beginner-to-advanced-level information and hands-on practice around a topic or skill relevant to starting, building or growing innovative companies.

“We’re open to all varieties and themes of workshops that will help someone learn information, a useful skill, or tactic for building a product or business,” she said. As prompts, the event website lists workshop topic ideas from B2B sales and marketing to crowdfunding.

She said there will be an announcement soon of the workshop lineup and “some world-class keynote speakers."

Startup Maine is also seeking volunteers to join the organization and to lend a hand during the event, as well as conference sponsors, speaker suggestions, and organizations wanting to host an affiliate event.

The cost of the two-and-a-half day conference is $48, which Shorey said they’ve been able to keep low thanks to sponsors, “so that anyone who is an entrepreneur, creator or start-up curious can join us.”

This year’s presenting sponsors are Maine Technology Institute and WEX Inc.
