MaineCanDo conducts statewide survey of sexual harassment and workplace cultures

MaineCanDo, a professional network formed to prevent future #MeToo incidents in Maine workplaces, is extending its mission with a survey of sexual harassment and workplace culture.

In collaboration with Pan Atlantic Research, it has launched what it says is the first comprehensive survey of its kind in Maine.

“The goal of the survey is to understand and raise awareness of the level of workplace sexual harassment in Maine,” said Betsy Peters, a founding member of MaineCanDo.

The survey, which first went out two weeks ago, has been shared with organizations including the Maine Technology Institute, Coastal Enterprises Inc., the Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP), the Maine Venture Fund and the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

MANP is encouraging its members to respond, underscoring its belief that successful organizations require safe, respectful and inclusive work cultures, the organization said.

The questionnaire has also been sent to all those who have signed the MaineCanDo pledge, which has gathered more than 350 signatures to date.

Peters said Thursday that anyone interested in filling out the confidential survey is welcome to do so, and that organizers are already halfway to the targeted participation rate.

“Our goal is to meet our target by the end of March,” she said.

Responses, which are welcome from both employers and employees, will be kept confidential, and employee responses will never be matched to the organization that employs them.

The data that’s collected is to be aggregated and analyzed at state and county level.
