Baldacci open to another Blaine House run

Gov. Paul LePage's two-term predecessor, former Democratic Gov. John Baldacci, is considering another run at the Blaine House.

Baldacci told the Bangor Daily News he would consider a 2014 run during a press conference for the Fix the Debt campaign he began leading in October 2012.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Baldacci told a former adviser that he would give U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree or Rep. Mike Michaud the first crack at a Democratic return to the Blaine House, but that the former governor would run for a third term in a race likely including the incumbent LePage and independent Eliot Cutler, who both ran in 2010.

LePage has not made a formal announcement that he will run again next year but has formed a campaign committee and begun fundraising.

Cutler told the paper that he's giving another gubernatorial run strong consideration.
