New hires

Preservation Management Inc., a residential property management firm in South Portland, recently hired Russell Begin as CFO. Begin most recently served as assistant director of operations at the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

The First N.A. recently hired Courtney Brehaut and Cynthia Fogg at its new Bangor branch. Brehaut, most recently the Bangor office branch manager for Machias Savings Bank, was hired as branch manager. Fogg, previously an assistant vice president loan officer at People's United Bank, was hired as vice president, senior mortgage account officer.

Nancy Marshall Communications recently hired Erika Bush as an account assistant. Bush was previously an executive assistant at Webster Hall in New York.

Putney Inc., a pet pharmaceutical company in Portland, recently hired Hongna Wang and Frank Femia. Wang, previously the manager of product development with Endo/Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, was hired as senior manager of product development. Femia, most recently the U.S. director of chemistry, manufacturing and controls at IBA Molecular, was hired as manager of product development.

Family Planning Association of Maine in Augusta recently expanded its Belfast services to include primary care. As a result, the association hired Christine Kramer and announced that Polly Beck will be expanding her practice to include primary care services.

Common Good Ventures, a Portland nonprofit that provides business advice, coaching and financial and technical guidance to nonprofits, recently hired Carol Walker Aten as senior consultant. Walker Aten has more than 20 years of practical and strategic experience as a nonprofit executive, community and board leader.

BerryDunn, a CPA and management consulting firm in Portland, recently announced several new hires. Scott Hackett and Matthew Litz joined the firm's tax services group; Medgar Austin, Lisa Calderwood, Karla Fossett, Harry Lanphear, Kevin Price and Yoko McCarthy were hired in the company's government consulting group; Kristine McNeil, a proposal writer and business development specialist, was hired in the management and IT consulting group; and Mathieu Fortier, a staff auditor based in Portland, has rejoined the firm's financial services group.

Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Cross Financial Corp. in Bangor, recently hired Michael Dufour as vice president of commercial lines at the firm's Augusta branch. Dufour was previously with Willis of Northern New England Inc.

Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty in Portland recently hired three new brokers. Carroll Fernald and Janet Moore were hired as senior vice presidents while Liam McCoy joined the company as vice president.

CUAlliance, the out-of-state subsidiary of Insurance Trust in Westbrook, recently hired Brendan Olsen as an account executive. Olsen will specialize in insurance products for credit unions in New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts.

Kappa Mapping, a digital mapping company in Bangor, recently hired Mark Bradstreet as director of business development. A certified photogrammetrist, Bradstreet was the owner and lead consultant for Bradstreet Consultants Inc., and the business development director for Blue Marble Geographics.

Gould Academy in Bethel recently hired Beth McWilliams as CFO effective July 1. McWilliams currently leads the business office at Hillside School in Marlborough, Mass.

Patient Advocates in Gray recently hired Lynn Marie Covelli as a nurse advocate and case manager. Covelli, a registered nurse, previously served as a nurse educator, heath care insurance account manager and health coach.

Maine Medical Center recently hired Susan Santangelo as director of psychiatric research. Santangelo, currently an associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, was previously with the Massachusetts General Hospital where she served as director of the statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology laboratory in the psychiatric and neurodevelopmental genetics unit, which is housed within the Center for Human Genetic Research.

United Insurance recently hired Patrick Gaetani as vice president and agency manager for the Whitehouse Agency office in Bangor. Previously, Gaetani served as vice president and commercial lines producer for Willis of Northern New England in Bangor.

HistoryIT LLC, a Portland firm specializing in the review, preservation, digitization, presentation and electronic management of historical collections, recently hired Christopher Alhambra as director of archive technology. Alhambra joins the company with more than 15 years of experience in database and website design.

Promotions

Camden National Corp. recently promoted Scott Buckheit to senior vice president and senior technology officer, information technology and loan servicing. Buckheit began his career with Camden National in 2006 as senior operations officer, vice president, loan servicing and facilities.

The County Federal Credit Union in Caribou recently promoted three staff members. Karen Peers, previously a loan officer in Presque Isle, was promoted to branch manager in the Caribou branch; Jessica Ouellette, formerly a member service representative-lending, moved to loan officer at the Presque Isle branch; and Janelle Morin, previously a part-time teller, was promoted to member services representative-lending in Presque Isle.

The First N.A. recently promoted Jennifer Stewart to regional vice president of Knox County. Stewart, who will oversee branches in Camden, Rockport, Rockland Park Street and Rockland Union Street offices, was previously an assistant vice president.

The Portland Museum of Art recently promoted Karen Sherry to chief curator. Sherry, previously the curator, was instrumental in the opening of the Winslow Homer Studio and the exhibition Weatherbeaten: Winslow Homer and Maine last September.

Bangor Savings Bank recently promoted Vice President Cathy Maher to branch manager at the bank's Brewer and State St. branches. Maher, who brings over 38 years of experience in the banking industry, will be based in the Brewer branch.

Appointments

Friends of Casco Bay, a marine conservation organization in South Portland, recently announced that Tollef Olson was named to its board of directors. Olson is a principal in Ocean Approved, a Portland company that develops kelp products such as kelp noodles, kelp slaw and kelp salad.

College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor recently announced that Lili Pew was elected to its board of trustees. Pew, a real estate specialist, has served on numerous local and national boards.

Avesta Housing in Portland recently announced its board of directors: Drew Sigfridson, broker, CBRE|The Boulos Co., chairman; Rebecca Greenfield, partner, Pierce Atwood, vice chair; Robert Dunfey, executive director, ITNPortland, secretary; and Gren Blackall, chief banking officer, Gorham Savings Bank, treasurer. The following board members were re-elected to three-year terms: Justin Alfond, real estate developer; Neal Allen, executive director, Greater Portland Council of Government; Blackall; Mike Carey, real estate developer; Dunfey; Greenfield; Luc Nya, multicultural services coordinator, Maine Department of Health and Human Services; Cornelia Swanson, executive credit officer for New England, TD Bank; and Deqa Dhalac, human service counselor at the city of Portland.

Clark Insurance in Portland recently announced that Jeffrey Lind was elected to its board of directors. Lind serves the firm as vice president and treasurer.

Accolades

The Portland Water District was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association. The certificate, awarded for a 16th consecutive year to the district, is recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Fisher & Phillips LLP, a law firm in Portland, recently announced that partner Melinda Caterine was recognized by Client Choice Guide – USA & Canada 2013 for excellence in client service. Caterine was the only attorney from Maine chosen for this honor from a pool of over 2,000 individual client assessments.

Spurwink recently announced that John Hallé, president and CEO of Cate Street Capital, has been selected as the nonprofit mental health agency's 2013 Humanitarian of the Year. Hallé will be honored at an award ceremony in November at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks.

The Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced the winners of its 2013 Tourism and Hospitality Eagle Awards. Northeastern Loggers Association captured the organizational achievement award; Waterfront Concerts won the bureau's impact award; and Mike Dyer, general manager of the Cross Insurance Center and Bass Park director, was honored with the individual achievement award.

Marilyn Gugliucci, director of geriatrics education and research in the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, was recently selected to receive the 2013 Marguerite Elliott Innovation in Clinical Medical Education Award by the Society of Osteopathic Medical Educators. Gugliucci is being recognized for her "Learning by living: life altering medical education program," a nursing home immersion program for medical students.

Electrician's Mate First Class Daniel Macomber, a Guilford native, was recently named one of the Navy's 2012 Recruiters of the Year. Macomber recruited 99 individuals to join the United States Navy in 2012.

UBS Financial Services in Bangor recently announced that adviser Robert Allen, was recently included in Barron's Top 1,000 Financial Advisors list for 2013. Allen was ranked No. 1 in Maine for a second consecutive year.

Advantage Home Care, a Portland company that provides non-medical home care services to individuals and families, was recently recognized by Home Care Plus with a Best of Home Care award. The firm was honored for its client and employee satisfaction and its commitment to quality.

Daunis Fine Jewelry in Portland recently won two 2013 Manufacturing Jewelers' and Silversmiths' Association Vision Awards. The store tied for first with its 18k Gold Egg in the Custom Design Distinction category and received a second place award for its 33 1/3rd Anniversary Necklace.

Kennebec Savings Bank recently announced it received a five-star rating from Bauerfinancial, a national independent bank rating firm. The rating was based on the bank's fourth-quarter performance for 2012.

Norway Savings Bank recently held its 2012 employee awards banquet. Winners included: Nancy Stroud, security administrator, employee of the year; Vicky Libby, vice president, loan servicing manager, president's award; culture awards were presented to Janel Danforth, Julie Flather, Christine McMann, Kurt Garascia and Gail McBride; Krissy Dillingham and Amy Marshall captured communication awards; customer service awards went to Tricia Brooks and Betty Kane; Mike Noble and Peggy Tilton won empowerment awards; Irene Millett and Karry Kane were leadership award winners; and team player awards were presented to Jessica Tice and Talley Estes.

Maclay Architects of Waitsfield, Vt., recently received the 2013 Zero Net Energy Award at the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association Building Energy Conference in Boston for the Bosarge Family Education Center at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay. The firm collaborated on the education center's design with Scott Simons Architects of Portland.

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud recently accepted the National Association of Development Organizations' Lifetime Achievement Award. Michaud earned the award for his leadership in promoting federal economic development programs.

Ellie Baker, managing principal at Baker Newman Noyes, and her husband, Tom Saturley, president and owner of Tranzon Auction Properties, were recently honored with the American Heart Association's 2013 Crystal Heart Award for their continued support and promotion of the organization's mission.

The Portland Public Library recently announced that Justin Hoenke was named a Mover & Shaker in the library industry by Library Journal. Hoenke, the teen librarian and leader of the teen team, was selected because of his commitment to librarianship and work with teenagers in the Portland area.

Lambert Coffin, a law firm with offices in Portland and Blue Hill, recently announced that six of its attorneys were named in the 2012 New England Super Lawyers publication. John Lambert Jr., civil litigation; Samuel Rudman and Peter Del Bianco, general litigation; and Philip Coffin, medical malpractice defense were recognized while associates Jeffrey Russell and Maureen Sturtevant were named Rising Stars in the field of medical malpractice defense.
