Verrill Dana, Friedman Gaythwaite Wolf merge

Verrill Dana, a 151-year-old law firm based in Portland, has merged with another Portland firm, Friedman Gaythwaite Wolf.

Combined, the law firm will have 118 attorneys, making it the second-largest firm in the state behind Pierce Atwood. It retains the Verrill Dana name and the merger is effective today.

Verrill Dana Managing Partner Keith C. (K.C.) Jones told Mainebiz the merger brings greater depth to the firm and enhances its roster of services to clients. He said he anticipates there will be new practice groups in the near future, likely headed by partners from Friedman Gaythwaite Wolf who have deep experience in product liability, personal injury, professional malpractice and other specialties.

Partner Harold Freidman, who founded the firm that bears his name in 1984, says FGW’s dozen or so trial attorneys are looking forward to the merger and the opportunity to work with the bigger firm and its expansive resources.

To learn more about the merger and what drove it, read an interview with Jones and Friedman in the Aug. 5 issue of Mainebiz.
