Judge: Inn at Brunswick Station to change its name

The Brunswick Inn has won a trademark dispute in federal court, where on Tuesday a judge ordered The Inn at Brunswick Station to change its name by April 4.

The Portland Press Herald reported that the order from U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen will also require The Inn at Brunswick station to stop using its website innatbrunswickstation.com, redirecting users to “a new non-infringing website with a different, non-infringing domain name.”

Frank Gaeta, attorney for The Inn at Brunswick Station, told the paper that his client is now evaluating whether to pursue an appeal of the judge’s order. In December, a jury decided to award The Brunswick Inn $10,000 in damages in the case.

In its lawsuit, the older Brunswick inn claimed the 2012 opening of the similarly named hotel created confusion for customers and public safety personnel.
