MaineGeneral eyes Thayer renovation by October

MaineGeneral Health officials said the $16 million renovation of its Thayer Center for Health in Waterville is set for completion in October.

The Morning Sentinel reported that the former inpatient hospital will be converted into the state’s largest outpatient facility, to work in concert with the health care network’s construction of a new 250,000-square-foot hospital in Augusta, which opened Nov. 11.

The newspaper reported the new Thayer campus will include a 24-hour emergency department, doctors’ offices, a pediatric center, day surgery, dialysis, workplace health, radiology and other departments. Chuck Hays, president and CEO of MaineGeneral Health, told the newspaper he expects the new Waterville facility will treat around 1,000 patients per day.
