Lewiston reboots film festival in new form

A group of Lewiston filmmakers and supporters will launch a new film festival this summer after the collapse of the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival, whose co-founder and director was arrested on a child pornography charge last week.

The new festival, called the Emerge Film Festival, is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, and will feature several of the films slated to appear at the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival. The Sun Journal reported organizers of the new festival plan to form a new nonprofit group to oversee the festival, with a board of directors.

The Lewiston Auburn Film Festival was scheduled for April 4-6 but was derailed after the arrest of director Joshua Shea, 38, who was the lone officer for the festival and did not communicate with a group trying to keep that festival on track.
