Tanker owners settle with Maine, N.H. after bridge crash

The owner of a tanker that came unmoored and drifted into a bridge connecting Maine and New Hampshire will pay the states $1.3 million after a settlement agreement over damages.

Bill Boynton, a spokesman for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, told The Associated Press the settlement represents a full reimbursement of construction costs associated with repairing the bridge, which is owned jointly by the states.

The owners of the Portuguese oil tanker MV Harbor Feature, who accused the two states of negligence, were set to go to court with state officials over the matter in October if an agreement was not reached.
