N.J. man pleads guilty to extortion of Vescom exec

A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to a charge of extortion for falsely claiming an executive from the Hampden-based Vescom proposed a sexual favor in exchange for a job offer.

The Portland Press Herald reported 50-year-old Patrick Curley of Passaic, N.J., pleaded guilty to one count of extortion in federal court in Bangor Monday.

Prosecutors wrote Curley alleged after a 2010 job interview that a Vescom senior vice president asked him to join her and her husband for sex in exchange for an offer of employment at the company. Curley also alleged that he was discriminated against and sexually harassed and ridiculed.

Curley was indicted on the extortion charge and arrested May 15, 2013 in Newark, N.J. He faces up to two years in prison and a fine of as much as $250,000, the newspaper reported.
