Jetport sees 6.7% rise in March passenger traffic

The Portland International Jetport today reported strong passenger growth that rose 6.7% over the same month last year.

Jetport Director Paul Bradbury said in a press release that an additional 4,021 passengers boarded this March. Also, while flights averaged 59 passengers each last year, that number is up to an average of 68 passengers per flight this year.

The news comes on the heels of lower than anticipated passenger numbers for January and February, when challenging weather affected flights nationwide. During the first three months of 2014, there were 338 fewer flights out of the Portland Jetport than the same time the year before.

“January and February were tough months due to hundreds of weather-related flight cancellations," explained Bradbury in a statement. "It appears the same tough winter that canceled many flights has also reinforced a desire for leisure travel to warmer locales. I expect this to continue into April. This is an excellent springboard to our historically strong spring and summer seasons."
