WMTW to move studio to Westbrook

WMTW-TV is moving its downtown Portland studio to a “broadcast-ready facility” in Westbrook this fall.

The TV station, owned by Hearst Television Inc., has its headquarters in Auburn and has anchored its newscasts from Portland’s Time and Temperature building for 15 years. The Westbrook facility is large enough for the station to house all of its operations under one roof.

“It will allow us the opportunity, at some point in the future, to combine all our facilities under one roof and become a synergistic operation with no miles between us," Dave Abel, WMTW’s president and general manager, said in the station’s Wednesday news report announcing the move.

"The technical and logistical challenges for a two-facility news and broadcast operation were at the core of our decision to make these changes,” added Greg Roehr, WMTW’s director of engineering. “The time is right for this move to better serve our audience and employees going forward.”
