Job creation grants available to several Maine counties

The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development is seeking applications for grants intended to spur job creation in the state’s economically disadvantaged regions.

The Associated Press reported that several counties, including Androscoggin, Franklin and Kennebec, are eligible for up to $250,000 for project funding. The money is made possible by $4.5 million in grants available from Northern Border Regional Commission.

Projects can be used for a wide range of initiatives, including transportation infrastructure and health care. They will help “maximize the creation of quality jobs for Mainers in some of our more economically disadvantaged regions,” according to Gov. Paul LePage.

Project funding will be awarded in September.
