Frosty's Donuts expanding to 23 Hannaford stores, adding Gardiner location

Photo Credit / Tim Greenway Shelby and Nels Omdal, owners of the Frosty's Donuts in Brunswick, are looking to hire seven more full-time employees this summer.

Frosty’s Donuts, an iconic doughnut shop in Brunswick, will have its fresh doughnuts served in up to 23 Hannaford supermarkets by the end of the year. The company, which currently has three retail locations, is also planning to open a Gardiner store this summer.

Shelby and Nels Omdal, who took ownership of Frosty’s more than two years ago, recently told Mainebiz their wholesale account with Hannaford will increase from 11 stores to as many as 23 sometime this year after signing a new contract because of positive sales. A Hannaford spokesman confirmed the new contract, but would neither confirm or deny the sales data

The wholesale expansion would put Frosty’s doughnuts in more than a third of the supermarket’s 57 Maine-based stores. The Brunswick Development Corp. aided with the expansion, as reported in the June 2 small business print edition of Mainebiz this week.

Frosty’s is expected to open its new Gardiner retail store within the next month, the Omdals said. The new 347 Water St. location was made possible in part by the new Gardiner Growth Initiative, also reported in this week’s print edition of Mainebiz.
