Orono brewery opening at former Dr. Records site

A new brewery is opening at the former site of Dr. Records, which had been a mainstay for downtown Orono for over 30 years, to provide beer for three nearby restaurants.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Orono Brewing Co. is expected to open under the Verve restaurant at 2 Mill St. sometime this fall. The venture was started by Abe and Heather Furth, the owners of Verve and Woodman’s Bar and Grill.

Dr. Records, a well-known music seller specializing in vinyl albums, moved out of its storied location in February after the Furths, who own the entire building, said they had other business plans for that section of the building. Dr. Records is now located in Bangor.

Craft breweries in Maine have grown from 35 to 53 since 2003, according to the Maine Brewers Guild, which commissioned a report earlier this year finding that the state’s craft beer industry could double production in the next four years.
