WEX signs deal with Shell

WEX Inc. said Tuesday it signed a deal with Shell to process some of its prepaid fuel card transactions.

It calls for WEX to process transactions in Shell’s commercial fleet operations in Europe and Asia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This new relationship underscores the relative quality and innovation of our fleet products and signifies an exciting step in our long-term growth strategy. We are very pleased to introduce a prepaid fleet product working with Shell,” WEX CEO Melissa Smith said in a prepared statement.

Royal Dutch Shell PLC is a global energy-and-petrochemical company.

WEX (NYSE: WEX), which is based in South Portland and offers corporate payment solutions to more than 7.8 million cardholders, continues to expand into new industries. Its operations include WEX Bank, Fleet One, Pacific Pride, rapid! PayCard, WEX Australia, WEX New Zealand and WEX Europe. It also has a majority stake in UNIK S.A., Brazil. WEX and its subsidiaries have 1,400 employees.
