Husson University gets $684K nursing grant

Husson University in Bangor has received a $684,000 federal grant to support more than 40 full-time graduate students enrolled in an advanced nursing program.

The university announced on Wednesday that its nursing program was the only program in Maine to receive the funding award from the Health Resources and Services Administration division of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Through a combination of tuition support and stipends, the grant will aid more than 40 full-time students in Husson’s Family and Community Nurse Practitioner program over the next two years. Students may have not been able to afford the program otherwise, the university said.

The funding is made possible by the DHHS division’s Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship program, which seeks to increase the number of nurses with advanced education in the field.
