Maine home sales rise as national sales drop

Single-family existing home sales in Maine increased in June by 14% over the same month last year — a moderate contrast to declining national home sales.

Maine home sales reached 1,513 units in June, with 1,327 units having sold in the same month last year, according to new data from the Maine Realtors Association. The association attributed the sales increase to a high inventory and low interest rates.

While more homes sold last month, the median sales price of $185,000 was virtually unchanged from a year ago, up half a percentage point.

On the national level, single-family existing home sales in June were at 4.43 million, a 2.9% decrease over 4.56 million from the same month last year, according to the National Association of Realtors. The national median sales price for June was at $224,300, a 4.5% increase.
