Passamaquoddys land $800K federal grant for high-risk youths

The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township will receive an $800,000 Mental Health and Substance Abuse Service grant from the Center for Mental Health Services to help fund the tribe’s Project LAUNCH Initiative.

U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King, who announced the award in a joint press release on Thursday, noted that the tribe’s initiative seeks to improve tribal services for high-risk, substance-exposed youth and their families in Washington County.

The Project LAUNCH Initiative will partner tribal child service agencies to build a family-driven, culturally competent system of care, their release stated. This strength based, sustainable system will be based on an integrated public health model, and will target services to children ages eight and younger, along with their families.
