Sunday River to get $5M in upgrades
Sunday River Resort in Newry will receive $5 million in capital improvements for the upcoming winter season, thanks to a new investment from parent company Boyne Resorts.
Boyne's new investment, announced today, brings the Michigan-based company's total investment in Sunday River to more than $40 million since purchasing the resort in 2007.
The new investment will allow Sunday River to install a new conveyor loading system into its chairlift for Spruce Peak; add a 10-acre glade on Barker Mountain for development, improve the resort’s dedicated race trail, Monday Mourning; and form a partnership between the resort’s Perfect Turn Ski and Snowboard School and Bethel's Gould Academy, providing kids between 8 and 10 with a new training program.
The investment will also allow Sunday River to purchase 60 additional snow-producing “snowguns” and 20 controllable pressure valves for water pumps, improving the resorts energy efficiency for snow production. The resort will also purchase two Pistenbully “snowcats” that will increase its ability to groom the snow.
