Demand for cleanup services surges after fierce storm

Wednesday’s record-breaking storm may have also broken a new record for the demand of cleanup services and products in southern Maine, where scores of properties were flooded.

The Portland Press Herald reported that businesses and homeowners placed over 300 phone calls to a Gorham-based Servpro franchise by late Thursday, prompting the cleanup service company to enlist help from franchises in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

The Maine Hardware Store on St. John Street in Portland also faced a surge of customers seeking wet/dry vacuums and other supplies, the PPH reported. The hardware store itself, along with many other businesses, had to deal with their own floods.

The Wednesday night storm dropped 6.55 inches of water on southern Maine in a matter of just two hours, a new record for the area.
