Union workers at Waterville plant continue without contract

Union workers at Huhtamaki North America’s paper goods factory in Waterville said they have yet to reach a “contract agreement with their employer after two years of disputes.

The Morning Sentinel reported that members of the United Steelworkers Union were seen picketing outside of the Waterville plant Wednesday, calling for a “fair contract.” The union represents about 360 workers there.

Lynne Hancock, a spokeswoman for the United Steelworkers Union, told the newspaper that wages, health benefits and retroactive pay are among the issues in the contract dispute with the Finland-based company, which runs 14 other manufacturing plants in the country.

A spokesperson for Huhtamaki was not available for comment, the newspaper said.
