Portland waterfront developer seeks Old Port feel

Developers are seeking to transform a historic Portland waterfront property into a mixed-use development that would emulate the feel of the Old Port.

The Portland Press Herald reported that developer CPB2 has filed a request with the city to rezone the 10-acre Portland Company property on 58 Fore St. from a special industrial zone to a mixed-use zone, seeking an emphasis on commercial and residential development.

The development plan is still in progress, CBP2 principal Casey Prentice told the newspaper, but said the property seeks to incorporate the “look and feel” of the Old Port. He called the development “the last frontier for downtown Portland.”

The Press Herald noted that it could take months before the Portland Planning Board considers the development plan for approval.
