Head of Central Maine business group resigns

Darryl Sterling has stepped down as executive director of Central Maine Growth Council, an  economic development group that serves Waterville, Winslow, Fairfield and Oakland.

The Morning Sentinel reported that Sterling resigned earlier this month, prompting Kimberly Lindlof, CEO and president of the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce in Waterville, to fill in as the group’s interim leader until a replacement is found, which could take up to six months.

When asked by the newspaper, Sterling wouldn’t say he stepped down, adding that he had no comment besides the fact that he is “looking at career options.”

Sterling joined Central Maine Growth Council in 2012 after serving in various economic and business development roles for private and public groups, according to his LinkedIn profile. He now lists himself as an economic and community development consultant.

The Central Maine Growth Council, founded as a Waterville-based group in 2001, has recently advocated for expanding Waterville’s foreign trade zone.
