Mercy Hospital submits plans to consolidate at new campus

Mercy Hospital has submitted “conceptual plans” to the city of Portland for a consolidation of its services at an expanded Fore River Parkway campus.

The Forecaster reported that the plans, presented at an Aug. 26 Planning Board workshop by Steve Bushey of the South Portland office of Fay, Spofford & Thorndike, call for a 250,000-square-foot addition to the 138,000-square-foot hospital completed in 2008, and a 72,000-square-foot ambulatory care center.

If all goes according to plan, the newspaper reported, the expansion would enable Mercy to fully transfer services provided at its 144 State St. hospital to Fore River, ending the hospital’s presence downtown by 2018.

Bushey told the newspaper consolidating the hospital’s services on one campus would save Mercy at least $9.5 million per year.
