Maine boombox startup plans to take on Bose
Two Portland entrepreneurs have successfully raised $60,000 for their Kickstarter campaign goal to launch a sturdy, waterproof and Bluetooth-enabled boombox, just after the Maine Technology Institute pledged a second, much larger grant to the venture.
James Demer and Jayson Lobozzo, who both work in the TV and film industry, recently told the Portland Press Herald that they plan to take on Bose and other large companies in the audio industry with their “Tonka Truck” of a boombox, called the DemerBox.
With three days left on the Kickstarter campaign, the DemerBox became fully funded shortly after the newspaper published its story on Tuesday morning.
Aside from the Kickstarter funds, the Portland-based startup has been funded with about $30,000 from Demer and Lobozzo’s own pockets, a small line of credit from Gorham Savings Bank, a $5,000 TechStart grant from MTI and a just-announced, additional $25,000 grant from the same organization, according to the Press Herald.
