Hannaford to buy eastern Maine supermarkets

Hannaford Supermarkets is set to purchase three Paradis Shop ‘n Save supermarkets in Houlton, Caribou and Calais after reaching an agreement with the family-owned chain.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the Houlton and Caribou locations will turn into Hannaford stores after the supermarket chain’s purchase is completed later this fall. The Calais location will be operated by the Paradis family until Hannaford finds an independent company to operate the store. Paradis supermarkets in Fort Kent, Madawaska and Brewer will not be impacted by the sale.

Current employees at the Houlton and Caribou locations are expected to receive offers from Hannaford to continue working at their respective stores. The supermarket chain is making company representatives available to answer questions about the transition.
