Summit launches new natural gas company

The parent company of Summit Natural Gas has launched a new company to help Mainers convert to natural gas in a timely and affordable process after receiving regulatory approval.

Summit Utilities announced Wednesday that the creation of Natural Gas Conversion Company was recently approved by the Maine Public Utilities Commission.

Summit said the new Augusta-based company, which will provide various natural gas conversion packages for customers, is ready to provide work for heating, ventilation and air conditioning professional immediately. Summit expects the demand for more work to continue as more customers convert to natural gas.

"The demand for natural gas in Maine is higher than it has ever been,” said Tim Johnston, Summit’s executive vice president and chief strategy officer, who will oversee the new company’s operations. “Natural Gas Conversion Company will have a positive impact on residents and businesses in southern and central Maine by providing reduced conversion costs and serving more customers in a shorter time frame."

"We are confident that our business model, along with the experience and knowledge of our employees, will create a more competitive market that will benefit all consumers," he continued. "With the equipment options and rebates we are able to offer, switching to natural gas will be easier and more affordable."
