Pepsi to close Portland, Augusta warehouses

PepsiCo is closing warehouses in Portland and Augusta, a move that will impact 100 employees and could possibly happen within the next month.

The Portland Press Herald reported that most of the employees will be offered to work in other facilities operated by PepsiCo in the area, which includes one in Auburn. Though company officials have not provided a timeline for the warehouse closures, some employees told WCSH 6 that they will close on Oct. 26.

PepsiCo’s latest financial statement from the second quarters shows that it’s been in the process of cutting down on facility-related expenses, the Press Herald noted. A recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission also shows that some warehouse closures are part of the company’s 2014 productivity plan.
