Portland arena decides to outsource management

A Philadelphia-based firm that currently manages operations at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor has been chosen to manage the former Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland.

The board of trustees of the Cross Insurance Arena announced Friday that it voted unanimously to choose Global Spectrum to manage the Portland venue. The discussion to outsource management for the publicly owned venue began more than two years ago.

“In the end, the trustees concluded that Global Spectrum is very well suited to achieve our two primary management goals: better access to national resources that will lead to more entertainment options and more efficient facility operations, and an approach that continues the traditions of local community involvement and entertainment value,” board chairman Neal Pratt said in a prepared announcement. “This arena is a tremendous asset and we want to be sure to maintain its community flavor, as well as its economic and entertainment value.”

Global Spectrum runs more than 125 entertainment venues across the world, which represent more than 15,000 events annually and generate $699 million in gross revenues. The firm is owned by Comcast Spectacor, a subsidiary of Comcast Corp. that also owns Front Row Marketing Services, which represents the venue for premium seating sales and helped the venue secure naming rights with Bangor-based Cross Insurance earlier this summer.
