Four businesses open in Ashland, support 200 jobs

State and local officials were in Ashland Thursday to celebrate the opening of four forestry-based companies that will result in the creation of around 200 jobs.

The Presque Isle Star-Herald reported that shingle manufacturer Ecoshel, biomass power plant ReEnergy, Ashland Sawmill and Northeast Pellets have all opened in Ashland this year, in some cases reopening facilities that had been previously closed.

U.S. Sen. Angus King said in a prepared statement that the companies are expected to support approximately 200 well-paying jobs in the area.
