Maine's largest wind project faces appeals

Two appeals have been filed against a proposed 62-turbine wind farm in Bingham, which has become the largest wind energy project in Maine to be approved by state regulators.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the Friends of Maine Mountains group and Alice Barnett, a longtime critic of the wind project, have filed separate appeals with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, which gave final approval for the $398 million project in September.

The appeal process will involve a response from First Wind, the Boston-based developer behind the project. The citizen-run Board of Environmental Protection will then consider the competing arguments at a later date.
