Topsham's Crooker & Sons sold to local investors
Harry C. Crooker & Sons, a Topsham-based construction company founded in 1935, has been sold by the Crooker family to its head engineer and some local investors.
The company announced the sale on Tuesday, saying that it will remain “locally owned and operated while retaining all of the employees and the management team,” with Thomas C. Sturgeon taking over as president and CEO.
The company said it will “continue to provide the high quality engineering, construction and paving services it has always been noted for” and that it “remains committed to supporting the State of Maine and all of the local communities it operates in.”
But the company’s 95-word press release shed few other details on the sale of the company. Crooker & Sons was previously owned by Frank and Ted Crooker, who had been serving as the company’s president and treasurer, respectively, according to its website.
Sturgeon said in an email to the Bangor Daily News that he and a group of local investors, who were not named, purchased the company for an undisclosed price.
When reached by the BDN, Ted Crooker declined to comment on the company’s sale and also declined to state whether he still has a stake in the company’s ownership.
