Portland plan could affect Shipyard Brewing

The Portland City Council is expected to consider soon a historic preservation plan that could affect future development at properties owned by Shipyard Brewing Co.

The Forecaster reported that a motion to send the India Street Sustainable Neighborhood Plan to the city council faced opposition from only one member of the city’s 10-member neighborhood advisory committee.

The neighborhood plan, which could be adopted as part of the city’s Comprehensive Plan, includes recommendations for new zoning and building code regulations that aim to preserve the neighborhood's historic character and provide direction for future development.

Brandon Mazer, the dissenting committee voter who also serves as in-house counsel for Shipyard Brewing, said the plan’s proposed “form-based code” could hurt future development of Shipyard’s adjacent properties at the corner of Hancock and Fore streets.
