Rockport businessman 'target' of federal probe

The Rockport businessman accused of embezzling $3.8 million from the charity he led for 17 years is being targeted by a federal investigation.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Maine Superior Court Justice Daniel Billings has approved a stay on the civil lawsuit filed by United Mid-Coast Charities against former president Russell "Rusty" Brace as a result of the federal investigation.

Brace's attorney, Peter DeTroy of Portland, said in a court affidavit filed this week that he confirmed with Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald Clark that Brace is under federal investigation and that criminal charges are expected.

Brace owns Brace Management Group and an office building in Camden. He was once named Townsperson of the Year by the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce.
