Feds sue Maine farm over sexual harassment

A farm in Lincoln County is being sued by the federal government over allegations that men were allowed to sexually harass female workers and that it enabled a hostile working environment.

The Portland Press Herald reported that County Fair Farm in Jefferson is facing the federal lawsuit, which was filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in U.S. District Court in Portland on Tuesday. An investigation by the EEOC shows that sexual harassment goes back as early as 2003.

The lawsuit alleges the farm had ignored complaints that a male supervisor and male workers had groped several female seasonal workers without their consent. It also alleges that the women were often propositioned for sex while working.

The owner of County Fair Farm has not commented yet.
