BIW lands $32.5M contract for stealth destroyer

The U.S. Navy has awarded a $32.5 million contract modification to Bath Iron Works for technical and industrial engineering work on the future USS Michael Monsoor, the second Zumwalt-class destroyer being built at the Bath shipyard.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the contract is in addition to a $24.4 million modification awarded in April for additional detail design and construction of the Navy’s newest class of destroyers.

BIW is building three DDG 1000s for the U.S. Navy. The first, the USS Zumwalt, named for Adm. Elmo R. “Bud” Zumwalt Jr., was christened in April.
