Former Navy hotel to become senior housing

Rousseau Enterprises, an elder-care provider with several facilities in Brunswick, plans to transform the former U.S. Navy hotel at Brunswick Landing into an 82-unit senior housing complex.

The $12 million project, which includes a 6,600-square-foot expansion and will be called Coastal Living Apartments, has been given the green light by the Brunswick Planning Department, according to The Forecaster.

Work on the conversion and expansion is expected to begin in November, the weekly newspaper reported.

Mitchell Rousseau, the company’s president, told the newspaper that almost half of the apartments will be reserved for residents of an assisted-living facility his company owns elsewhere in Brunswick. The renovated facility will operate as an elderly independent living complex that will be staffed by licensed care providers and will include dining areas, gym, sauna, theater, beauty parlor and community garden.

Rousseau Enterprises bought the property in August from Affordable Midcoast Housing, a company owned by Auburn-based developer George Schott, the newspaper reported.

Schott reportedly paid roughly $6 million to buy hotel and more than 200 apartments that had served as Navy housing at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station.
