Hilton-brand hotel proposed in Augusta

An Auburn-based developer is proposing a four-story, 120-room, Hilton-brand hotel in Augusta that would be visible from Interstate 95 and located among a group of other hotels.

The Kennebec Journal reported that the $12 million project would be co-owned by developer George Schott and Florida-based Ocean Properties. The hotel is listed in city planning documents as a Homewood Suites, which is a Hilton Worldwide brand.

Peter Thompson, president and CEO of the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce, told the newspaper that there could be an increasing demand for hotel rooms in Augusta, based on the city’s rise of taxable lodging sales.

Pending city approvals, construction of the hotel could begin as soon as next spring, with doors opening to customers 12 months later.
