Mortgage lender opens fifth Maine branch

Danvers, Mass.-based Mortgage Network Inc. has opened a new branch in Freeport as part of its strategy to expand in areas where the housing market has been recovering.

Mortgage Network, one of the largest independent mortgage lenders in the eastern United States, announced the opening of its fifth Maine branch this week. The Freeport branch is having a grand opening on Nov. 12.

“The southern Maine housing market continues to grow as many residents are taking advantage of low interest rates to buy their first home, or trade up or trade down their current residence,” Dean Gilbert, the Freeport branch manager, said in a prepared statement.

Brian Koss, Mortgage Network's executive vice president, said in a prepared statement that the company continues to grow, even as nationwide mortgage origination volume has been in a downward trend. “Our strategy of opening branches in areas where housing is rebounding and where consumers are hungry for great products and excellent customer service, like Freeport, is clearly paying off," he added.

Mortgage Network, which has more than 42 offices across and is licensed to do business in 24 states, has sold more than $35 billion in mortgage loans since 2000.
